ONE-ACT PLAY: A PERFORMANCE TASK IN THE NORMAL

One of the many things teachers miss in the NORMAL face-to-face-learning-set-up is getting students collaboratively perform a task where they can apply their individual skills learned and join them together to come up with an output which we can all appreciate.

A one-act play is one of the lessons in Grade 9 English which tries to make students understand the importance of the elements such as setting, plot, character, characterization, conflict, theme, suspense, and atmosphere in making a play.

In a one-act play performance task, the learners try to develop good understanding on how verbal and non-verbal language (which includes body language, facial expression and changes in the voice) should work together to convey the meaning of the scences and have theme communicated to the viewers.

Using the script of the "Super Dead Man", my Grade 9 English students performed a one-act play.
