On Prohibition of Cigarette Smoking

Written by: Shaira Mae Painagan

Nowadays, smoking is a social habit. The survey found that this is becoming more prevalent in our nation on a daily basis. Almost all body organs are tribulated by smoking.

Some claims that smoking cigarettes helps people unwind and concentrate more effectively. Smoking reduces the symptoms of schizophrenia and other mental illnesses, according to scientific evidence. Smoking cigarettes promotes social interaction since it puts a smoker in a cheerful attitude.

Smoking should be prohibited since it endangers both public health and the environment.

Smoking cigarettes has a significant negative impact in our lungs. Terrie Linn McNutt Hall (2013), a former smoker share that at the age of 13, she smoked her first cigarette. She discovered a sore in her mouth that was later determined to be oral cancer. She later discovered also that she had throat cancer. The effect of cigarettes smoking on our bodies are significant. Not just in our lungs, but also in other areas of our bodies. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, smoking cigarettes increases your risk of gum disease, colorectal cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, cleft lip and palate, erectile dysfunction, ectopic pregnancy, hip fractures, and blindness.

In terms of smoking, secondhand smoke is also a concern. Based on my own experience, I have a neighbour who is addicted to smoking cigarettes, therefore whenever we converse or chit-chat, I always inhale the cigarettes he smoke. It caused me to have difficulty in breathing. When a smoker is around, secondhand smoke is what you inhale. It is the smoke that emanates from a cigarette, cigar or pipes burning end as well as what the smoker exhales. Smoke is full of toxicity and allergens. Babies and small children are particularly vulnerable. There are various diseases and conditions that are at danger from secondhand smoke, including ear infections, pheumonia, bronchiolitis, respiratory infections, and SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome often known as crib death).

The prohibition of smoking cigarettes would greatly benefits people's life.

Together, we can stop this smoking behaviour. Tobacco and e-cigarettes free campuses should be adopted, and schools should educate students about the risk of starting to use nicotine and tobacco products. Youth organization should also plan neighbourhood gatherings to involve and inform your peers and create a movement for a generation free from tobacco use.
